Let’s Discuss Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety has a lot to do with the way we communicate with our animals.

Anxiety, on its own, is a form of the bodies way of communicating to us that something is not in balance.

The Same happens with our animals. When Entering them into a new space that is largely different than their natural habitat, there can be some misunderstandings as all new puppy training owners know best. You may have to Correct an “issue” many times before your fuzzy footed friend catches on- some learn better & quicker & others not so much at all. We love them all the same, though we all know that these rules wouldn’t be implemented unless there were other known ways to coexist respectfully with one another.

What if there was a way?

to coexist with your furry friends in any environment?

Mastering nonverbal as well as verbal cues is a necessity for all beings. Some would call it instinctual.

Let’s go over some examples shall we?

Humans have adjusted to long work hours though your instinctual fluffier has no clue what work even is. Nonetheless you’re excited to see new pup and the feeling is mutual!feeling kinda lazy from the work day and all you wanna do is cuddle up and enjoy some love?

However,

New puppy’s day has officially just begun, after all , you’ve initiated ‘pack leader’ and have officially begun crate training, haven’t you?

Or

you haven’t and puppy has left you a lovely anxious surprise in the form of very tiny pieces of your most beloved items- ones that carry you’re strongest personal scent- THE SMELL OF MAMA!

basically,

When pupperbilities catch you off guard, what do you do?

Prepare ahead!

What’s the best way to prepare for your new fuzzy being being?

GOOD NEWS : You have options!

Let’s discuss some.

1st:

Like you would with any long staying being in your home, you would prepare fur a comfortable, non liability accumulating stay.

  • Get a puppy gate or fence VS a crate.

Providing your pup with decent space allows room for their imagination to do more of the work in a stressfree way.

Allowing your fur friend to play themselves into several naps VS stressing into restless spurts of rest- if at all- and causing future concerns- until you return aides them in following their bodies natural response to be a pup!

2nd:

Provide pup with 2-5 toys of choice!

We recommend a stimulation toy or 2- like

treat/meal dispensers or scent infusion toys.

*Nylon, hard rubber, and built in squeakers are our friend!

***Avoid anything with stuffing or string while you are away.

3rd:

Water dispenser

To avoid clumsy pups spillage and provide him with water when he requires it.

4th:

Create a space separate from his resting space to potty.

Suggestion:

***Try Placing a divider between their rest/play space and their potty area to provide privacy and a specific place for pup to potty indoors while he’s patiently waiting to grow large enough to use his doggy door!

**add fresh grass mat vs plastic mat.

-Makes it harder to miss; providing less spillage and cleanup

-Closest version to his natural state of potty

  • doubles as a sensory stimuli

5:

Play sound therapy music

We recommend 528hz sound therapy or white sound for vibrational sound therapy that will calm your potentially anxious friend from the inside out.

You can also play puppy zen music, pet tv/nature videos and Nature sound therapy.

Keep in mind that puppy is new to the world and may not initially be stimulated by objects on the screen as they have no clue what a screen is.

Interest may be brief.

6:

Scent therapy!

We recommend naturally gentle calming scents like Chamomile or lavender.

Make an infusion by steeping the herbs in hot water then pouring the mix into a diffuser.

Or provide the mix directly to their water to provide a calming affect from the inside out.

  • you could also place natural calming herbs around their space for scent and no access purposes!

Now lets discuss ENERGY!

If your starting with a young fluff you’ve got a good deal!

It’s the perfect time for you both to implement actions and learn together- and a beautiful way to bond further with your new pack member.

1st:

Be aware of your energy, their energy and personal habits aka be a great host!

We know you are excited and so will they. Animals are super instinctual as they have not had as many environmental adjuster as humans have.

So, loud, high pitched sounds will be alarming to them.

Initially it can startle them, but if their new pack leader has a high pitched sounding voice when engaging with them, as humans have been inclined to do when engaging with things smol and fluffy, they may not accumulate fear as much as they would accumulate Anxious curiosity; which can be shown in the forms of chewing through restraints or allowing their tail to flick urine around the area as they pee -instinctually of course.

These are lighter forms of representation though I’m sure you get the distance we could throw this one.

When engaging with your new soul, think gratitude and honor of the space you share, rather than mastery or leadership.

It will allow you to move more gentle and make more considerate actions when around your new fluffer and in return they will be more calm- with you and in general.

As most beings tend to take the characteristics of those they spend the most time with.

It will also help minimize a distant thought in the future of who’s running who?

Because in reality, we are not pack leader and they are not helpless, we are assisting them in existing on this ever evolving planet just as they are assisting us in doing the same.

That is something worth great gratitude.

Wishing you success as you create a healthy happy space for your loved ones to be.

We are always brain storming!

Until next time 🐾
